ACVOW Goes to Washington
July 21, 2009, Washington DC  -  “Our greatest support came from the Obama Administration,” said Dino Maiolo,
National Communications Director.  “They haven’t officially endorsed ACVOW yet because there are procedures
that must be followed for that, but they certainly support our mission and want to help.”  Indeed, the President has
made our combat wounded a priority and is giving them and their families the help they have earned.

Beyond Yellow Ribbons
As veterans and combat warriors, we appreciate whatever support we receive from the people we have sworn to
protect.  But it is very apparent that support for the troops has been waning over the past few years.  The lack of
interest may come from several areas.  People across the country are still losing their homes and their jobs.  For
many, supporting the troops was equivalent to supporting the war in Iraq.  As the war becomes unpopular, so
does the association people have with it, in this case, the troops.

ACVOW and the Family
Domestic violence is never justified in any circumstance.  Indeed, the impact on the family is among the most
tragic effects of combat stress.  We send our sons and daughters to war and they return to us changed men and
women.  Often the changes manifest themselves violently or through withdrawal.  Gone untreated, post traumatic
stress and traumatic brain injury can devastate families and leave them fragmented.

Stop Calling it a Disorder
November 25, 2009 - In the past, combat stress has been called many things
such as shell shock, battle fatigue and soldier's heart.  More recently it has been
referred to as post traumatic stress disorder; however, the combat veterans of
ACVOW refuse to label their symptoms as a "disorder."  Indeed, what warriors
experience is a very normal reaction to a very uncommon experience.

Not all warriors suffer from combat stress, but American Combat Veterans of
War has dedicated itself to those that do.  Please peruse this website and go to
the contact page to let us know your thoughts.  Or, if you or someone you know
is suffering from combat stress, please use the phone numbers on the left hand
side of this page and contact us immediately.
